About the event

Join me for a two-day workshop covering the assessment of Autism and ADHD in adults. This is a foundational course for anyone interested in working with adults who suspect they are Autistic and/or have ADHD. I will be using a neurodiversity affirming approach, as per the Autism CRC guidelines for best practice when working with Autistic clients.

This workshop will cover:

- The DSM criteria for Autism and ADHD: understanding the nuances of the diagnostic criteria.

- Autism and ADHD: what does it look like in adults who mask or who have 'internalised' presentations?

- Differential diagnosis: When to consider Autism and/or ADHD in a clinical setting and how to differentiate these from presentations such as depression, anxiety, trauma, borderline, bipolar and more. I will also discuss when it may be useful to use additional psychological assessments to assist with differential diagnosis.

- An overview of common screenings tools for Autism and ADHD, including best practice for initial assessments. How to select, administer, and interpret screening tools for adults.

- How to create an affirming assessment experience for your clients.

- A review of administering and interpreting diagnostic measures such as the MIGDAS-2 and the DIVA-5. I will be focusing on adults who are verbal and do not have an intellectual disability.

- Bringing it all together: How I utilise quantitative and qualitative assessment methods to assess Autism and ADHD and determine whether a diagnosis is warranted.

- Considerations for ensuring diagnostic confidence.

- A brief overview of diagnosticreport writing.

- Case scenarios, discussions, and guidance for next steps.

About me: I'm a neurodivergent psychologist who works in the niche area of conducting neurodiversity affirming Autism and ADHD assessments in the adult population. More specifically, I work with adults who have a 'highly internalised' presentation, who are verbal, and who have average to above average IQ scores. I am committed to providing quality and comprehensive training to ensure that more psychologists are able to upskill in this critical area of practice.

This training will provide you with enough knowledge and tools to begin conducting adult Autism and ADHD assessments. However, no training is complete without ongoing supervision. Ongoing regular supervision with a psychologist who is highly skilled in this area is best practice to continue to build and develop your skills.

Certificates of attendance will be provided and this training can be counted as professional development. This workshop will not be recorded.
